Well it's official - Joyco is entering the digital video production age in a big way.
Owner and president, Bob Coffin, has announced the acquisition of several new, key pieces of hardware that will allow Joyco to continue producing HD video projects.
The biggest and potentially the most far reaching equipment acquisition is the purchase of a complete HD multi-camera production system from Hitachi.
Joyco now owns three Hitachi Z-HD5000 cameras with fiber-optic connections to each camera. The cameras are Hitachi's latest design and produce stunning images.
To compliment the new cameras, Joyco also purchased two AJA KiPRO digital HD video recorders. These are file based recorders that are capable of recording a wide variety of formats and standards in the ProRES file format. We can now drop recorded files directly into editing software like Final Cut, and begin editing projects immediately.
But the frosting on the cake will be the June arrival of a Broadcast Pix HD digital switcher. After all, if you can't switch between cameras live, what's the good in having three of them? The Granite digital switcher from Broadcast Pix, will allow Joyco to provide the flexibility and capacity to produce images of live events that give our live event clients the production values they need and want. The switcher is really the heart of any live production and this device will allow Joyco to mix a wide variety of digital video sources to produce a final product comparable to any cable or over-the-air broadcast outlet.
This is all very expensive stuff, but Bob is confident his investment in the company will pay off. Bob feels Joyco must remain competitive by updating and upgrading the company's technology. He wants to maintain Joyco's unique position in the Denver production market by offering technologically advanced services at a reasonable cost to the client.
Lastly, Joyco has purchased two Canon 60D DSLRs for our narrative style shoots. The 60D is a still/video camera, complemented by Canon "L" series lenses. They produce amazing pictures and video recordings. The files can be manipulated in whatever software seems appropriate for the job, to produce sophisticated, highly edited final products. Joyco hopes to produce either scripted series or reality based TV programs with this equipment.
